Earlier this year, we summarized in a blog post the fingerprinting requirements for CFL license applicants. Recently, the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation updated its CFL background check guidance to reduce the processing fee that must accompany an FBI cardstock fingerprint card (FD-258) submitted by a non-California resident from $86 to $69. (California residents must continue to complete electronic fingerprinting through a Live Scan service provider, complete a Request for Live Scan Service form (in triplicate), and pay a $20 fee.) Both out-of-state and in-state residents must submit a check made out to the “Department of Financial Protection and Innovation” for the respective $69 and $20 fees. These fees are separate from any fees paid directly to the fingerprint technician at the time of appointment.
We are certainly happy to see the department reduce the fee. What would make us even happier, though, is if the department were to follow in the footsteps of the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities and other state agencies with licenses on NMLS in accepting electronic fingerprints submitted through Fieldprint, NMLS’ fingerprint vendor, as well as electronic payment of fingerprint processing fees through NMLS.
